GENERAL RULES GOVERNING DRILL WITH ARMS COMPETITION


  1. PURPOSE
    1. The Purpose of this competition is to test for
      1. Dress
      2. Correct drill movements
      3. Correct commands
      4. Prescribed routine
    2. DRESS
      All competitors will be inspected prior to performing the routine including spares. Dress will be marked as it applies to The Navy League of Canada regulations in effect at the time of competition. Webbing will be worn by all members of the unit.


    3. CORRECT DRILL MOVEMENTS
      All drill movements must confirm to that as prescribed by the Navy League of Canada in their drill manual in effect at the time of competition. NL(53)


    4. ROUTINE
      The specific order of the routine to be followed by each team is listed in the Appendices to these rules

  2. GUARD UNIT
    1. The unit will consist of a maximum of fifteen (15) members (Cadets) as follows


      1. One (1) Guard Commander. Does not have to be a P.O


      2. Fifteen (15) unit members. There will be NO rank restrictions for this specific competition.


    2. The compliment of the unit may be less than fifteen (15) members. In cases where the total maximum is not achieved a set point deduction will be levied for each member missing. This penalty will be applied at time of uniform inspection

    4. You may have two spares for the Guard Unit, their uniforms will be inspected together with the remainder of the team. Substitutions of team members will be allowed for medical reasons only. One Guard Commander only is allowed.

  3. OFFICIALS
    1. There will be five (5) judges required for this competition as follows;


      1. Chief Judge
      2. Inspection Judge
      3. Front Rank Judge
      4. Centre Rank Judge
      5. Rear Rank Judge


    2. CHIEF JUDGE.......The Chief Judge is the supreme authority of the competition and they will generally be the Area Officer. They are responsible for


      1. Running the competition.
      2. Marking the Guard Commander
      3. Marking the compliance to prescribed routine.
      4. Compiling the final scores.


    3. INSPECTION JUDGE.......The inspection judge is responsible for the inspection of each unit and scoring of that inspection. They are also to record any quota insufficiencies of unit size.


    4. RANK JUDGES.........The rank judges (front, center & rear) are assigned by the Chief Judge at their discretion. Each is responsible solely for scoring the correctness of the movements of those unit members in the rank assigned. In cases where the routine requires formation of a single file, the Front Rank Judge only will score. In cases where two ranks are formed only the Front Rank Judge and the Center Rank Judge will score.


    5. The judges are not to interfere with or get in the way of the competing unit.


    6. The Chief Judge may also be the Inspection Judge.

  4. FORMAT
    1. The competition will consist of the following;


      1. Inspection
      2. Compulsory drill movements (first round)
      3. Compulsory drill movements (second round)


    2. INSPECTION.........Each unit member will be inspected prior to their competing in the first compulsory drill routine. IN cases for practicality this inspection may be performed earlier then the scheduled performance time of the unit.


    3. COMPULSORY DRILL MOVEMENT......See Appendix AE@ 10 for routine


    4. The use of drill prompters and cue cards is not permitted.


    5. Additional attempts may be added to the competition if needed and time permits. The second compulsory is the same as that of the first compulsory.

  5. EQUIPMENT
    1. The following equipment is required;


      1. Drill deck thirty (30) meters by fifteen (15) meters
      2. Four (4) flags or suitable markers.
      3. One (1) table with chairs (for Chief Judge).
      4. Five (5) clip boards with pencils.
      5. Masking tape


    2. The drill deck is to be laid out as per diagram. See Appendix AE @ 11

    4. SCORING
      1. Each unit will enter the competition starting with 350 points which are broken down as follows;


        1. Inspection-------------------50 points
        2. First routine-----------------125 points
        3. Second routine--------------125 points
        4. Overall assessment -----------50 points


      2. Marks will be deducted in the inspection as follows


        1. Insufficient members--------------1 mark per member
        2. Incorrect dress-------------------1 mark per infraction
        3. Equipment, (cleaned, etc.)--------1 mark per infraction


      3. Marks will be deducted in the compulsory round first attempt as follows;


        1. Improper compliance to orders--------- half mark per infraction
        2. Improper commands--------------------3 marks per infraction
        3. Non adherence to routine---------------2 marks per infraction
        4. Going outside drill deck boundaries------1 mark per unit member crossing over

    5. POINTS WILL NOT BE AWARDED
      1. The resultant score in each of the three (3) categories will be added together to determine the winner. The team scoring the most points will be declared the winner


      2. n the event of a tie, that tie will be broken by a drill off
