GENERAL RULES GOVERNING THE FIELD DAY COMPETITION
- PROGRAM
- There will be two (2) methods of implementing this competition
- outside program (fair weather) (9 events)
- Inside program (inclement weather) (7 events)
- For each method the basic rules will be identical; however, space limitations encountered with the inside program will cause some events to be deleted and others restricted
- The outside program will consist of:
- Baseball Throw
- Standing broad jump
- Three legged race
- Tug-o-war
- Running broad jump
- 100 meter dash
- 400 meter relay race
- Football punt (soccer ball optional)
- The inside program will consist of:
- Baseball Throw
- Standing broad jump
- Three legged race
- Tug-o-war
- Inside race
- Relay race
- Football throw (soccer ball optional)

- LOCATIONS
- Ideally the outside events will be held in a sports facility which offers a track as well as a large playing field. The other alternative would be to hold it in a park or other suitable location
- The inside events should be held inside an arena, armory or gymnasium. The elements of the inside competition will have to be tailored to suit the space available
- If the outside program is selected it is recommended that a "foul" weather locale be made available should the need arise.
- All specified distances will be approximated to the actual requirement

- NUMBER OF COMPETITORS
- For most events a maximum of four (4) entrants per event per Corps are allowed. In each event a heat consisting of one entrant per Corps shall run. The winners of these heats will enter in the finals
- Exceptions to 3.1 will be covered in the individual event descriptions
- DRESS
- All competitors must wear suitable sports clothing
- All competitors must wear running shoes for each event. Track cleats, spikes and hard soled shoes are not permitted
- Navy League caps will be worn when individuals are not in direct competition

- OUTSIDE PROGRAMS
- BASEBALL THROW. Each contestant will have two (2) throws with the longest toss being accepted. The point at which the ball comes to a rest will be the recorded throw. The ball must be thrown overhand and it may be projected at the conclusion of a short run. Each Corps may enter four (4) contestants. The winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th) will be determined based on the furthest overall distances achieved from all entrants.
- STANDING BROAD JUMP. Each contestant will have only one (1) jump from a standing position. The progress will be marked from a point at which the rear most part of the body touches the ground. Four (4) contestants per Corps are allowed. Standings will be based upon the maximum distances achieved.
- THREE LEGGED RACE. This event will be run over a 90 meter straight course. Each pair of entrants must cross the finish line while tied together at two places below the knee. This is a heat and final run-off competition with four (4) pair of contestants allowed per Corps.
- TUG-O-WAR. This is a team event with two (2) individual Corps pulling against each other to determine the best out of three pulls. Ground is reversed after each pull. Winners advance to pull against the winners of other first round pulls. The last two teams to contest will determine the 1st and 2nd place standings, while 3rd and 4th places shall be contested by the runners up. The Corps will draw for starting positions and in the case of an odd number of Corps one will receive a bye as determined by the draw. Each Corps is to enter one (1) ten (10) member team..
- RUNNING BROAD JUMP. Each entrant will have one (1) jump only following a twelve (12) meter run up to the line. The progress will be marked from a point at which the rear most part of the body touches the ground. Four (4) contestants per Corps are allowed. Standings will be based upon the maximum distances achieved
- 100 METER DASH. From a starting point contestants must cross a finish line. This is a heat and final run off competition with four (4) contestants allowed per Corps.
- 400 METER RELAY RACE. This is a team event, with each team consisting of four (4) members. Each member is required to run one (1) lap around the course. From a starting line one individual per team will run the course carrying a baton, upon approaching the transfer point that runner will transfer the baton to the next runner in position at that point, at which time the new runner commences running. This is repeated until each team member has run the course. All Corps compete at the same time. If a baton is dropped it must be picked up by the runner who dropped it..
- FOOTBALL PUNT. Each contestant will have two (2) attempts with the longest punt being accepted. The point at which the ball comes to rest will be the recorded distance. Each Corps may enter four (4) contestant. The winners (1st, 2nd 3rd and 4th) will be determined based on the furthest overall distances achieved from all entrants..

- INSIDE PROGRAM
- BASEBALL THROW. Each Corps may enter four (4) two (2) member teams. Starting at a distance of four (4) meters member "A" will throw the ball UNDERHAND to member "B". "B" will throw the ball UNDERHAND back to "A". After each competing member has thrown the ball all "As" and "Bs" will take one (1) pace backwards. If the ball is not caught on any throw the team is disqualified. The last team remaining following the other teams dropping out will be the heat winner. The winners of each heat will compete for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place.
- STANDING BROAD JUMP. Each contestant will have only one (1) jump from a standing position. The progress will be marked from a point at which the rear most part of the body touches the ground. Four (4) contestants per Corps are allowed. Standings will be based upon the maximum distances achieved.

- AWARDING OF POINTS
- Points will not be awarded for heat winners/li>
- The winners of each heat will compete for final standings with the following points awarded
- First Place - 4 points
- Second Place - 3 points
- Third Place - 2 points
- Fourth Place - 1 point
- The points awarded to each Corps will be totalled up to determine the final standings. The Corps with the most points will be declared the winner.
